課程概述

Digital Structures (1) is a 18 weeks long international education program.
intensive design and build workshop led by architects, interaction designer and computer scientist, exploring cutting edge computational design methods, digital media, internet of things, and spatial strategies. the class will place its emphasis on investigating the role of information played in both digital simulation and physical design formation. Using a live link between human and environmental data and 3D parametric design software, We will experiment with conceptual and data-driven design methodologies and explore how these novel technologies can be applied to design disciplines such as architecture, product, interaction based design industries.

教學目標

 Some futurists and politicians claim that machines will be taking over human beings and 40% of jobs will be cut off by 2030. We, as architecture, industrial, interaction designers working with information, advanced geometries, user experience and physical objects will be required to work with such intelligent system not only in the performance and function aspect, but also incorporating such thinking in the design process very soon. Therefore, the theme of the Digital Structures (1) is really set to response to the following questions:

1. How can a design benefit from the mass information around us?

2. How visual / physical experience/ performance would be incorporated to create a design that has positive impact to our daily life and behaviour?

3. What kind of collaboration between human and machine would be in the future?

4. How intelligence information driven design strategies and advanced technology would change spatial experience?

We envisage that the creative and critical reinterpretation of the SIF installation will thus be born through the interrogations of these categories by the team of architects, interaction designer and computer scientist/artist.

Weekly homework should be completed.
The final results are presented in a collection of works, actual works, and films.

The exploration of complexity and singularity, real time data collection and analysis, human-machine collaboration, and generative design during the class will lead participants to produce a medium scale smart/ interactive installation as the outcome of this program.
